Choosing Acne Medicines To Fight Degree Of Individual Outbreak

For persons suffering from serious outbreaks of acne, medicines are available to help reduce many of the causes of acne. However, before a person uses any type of medication on their skin they should consult their doctor or a dermatologist to insure the target of the acne medicines is going to be affected by their choice. The best products on the market for acne are those containing a formulation of benzoyl peroxide in concentrations of two to 12-percent, with 10-percent solutions showing the best improvement.

Many over the counter acne medicines containing five-percent benzoyl peroxide are commonly used by teens and others that suffer acne outbreaks due to hormonal changes, but they may not have the desire affect for all acne sufferers. However, there are some downsides to using topical bactericides containing benzoyl peroxide as this chemical work like bleach and can damage clothing with which it comes into contact.

Topical antibiotics are also popular acne medicines that kill the bacteria in and on the skin that causes the unsightly blemishes to form. In cases of severe and repeated acne outbreaks, a doctor may prescribe oral acne medicines included antibiotics and hormone treatments, depending on the diagnosed cause.

Alternatives Available To Acne Medicines

Not everyone looking for acne treatment is inclined to use synthetic drugs to treat their acne problem. Natural products and those containing less abrasive treatments have been developed as acne medicines. Tea tree oil and aloe vera have shown promise in treating light outbreaks of acne and are commonly used as acne medicines by naturalists. However, preventing the acne from forming is the best of the practice of keeping the skin clean and free from the build up of dead skin cells is easier than fighting off an outbreak with prescription drugs.

For person for whom acne medicines seem to have no influence there are other, more drastic measures they can take, such as laser treatments. Lasers have been used to burn away the sebaceous glands to reduce the amount of sebum produced that may tend to clog the skin's pores. Lasers are also used to burn away the hair follicles, but this type of treatment also removes the hair from the affected area.

Blue or red light treatment, as well as heat are also being used in place of acne medicines as the light rays and heat is used to kill bacteria that is blamed for the acne. Those that suffer frequent acne outbreaks should their doctor or dermatologist to determine if they need prescription acne medicines or an alternative treatment method to keep their skin clear.
