Creating an Arthritis Diet

Of all the ways you can help relieve the symptoms associated with your arthritis one of the very best is to create an arthritis diet for yourself. It is imperative that you follow a sensible diet in order to ensure that you keep your body in tip-top shape and to help it fight against the arthritis as best as it can.

Foods to Avoid

The first step in creating an arthritis diet is to determine which foods should be avoided. Some foods that will aggravate arthritis are foods that are high in fat or cholesterol, and foods that are high in Omega 6s. Other culprits that can cause problems with an arthritic condition include sugar, caffeine, citrus, salt, red meat, dairy products, additives, and corn.

Fruits and Vegetables

You should include as many fresh fruits and vegetables in your arthritis diet as you can. This is because the beta-cryptoxanthin which is found in these foods is recognized for being important for bone health and immune function, and is very helpful for people suffering from arthritis.

A few of the fruits and vegetables that fall into this category include yellow applies, cantaloupe, apricots, lemons, mangos, yellow figs, cape gooseberries, oranges, papayas, persimmons, pineapples, tangerines, yellow watermelons, sweet potatoes, yellow beets, yellow potatoes, and sweet corn, to name a few.

Tips

There are a few helpful tips that can make shopping for food for your arthritis diet much easier. For one, you should realize just how important it is to read labels on food before buying it. You should be especially careful and avoid as much food as possible that contains additives and preservatives because these do nothing good for your body.

You should also try to avoid prepared meals as much as possible, and this refers to meals that can just be popped into the oven or microwave for a few minutes and are then ready to eat. These meals tend to contain a whopping amount of sodium and cholesterol and are very bad to include in an arthritis diet.

These tips will be very helpful so that you can make up a list of food before heading out to the grocery store. By being responsible with your diet you will not only be dealing properly with your arthritis condition but as well guarding yourself against a variety of other health conditions. You should also quit any unhealthy habits that you may have, including smoking and excessive drinking. These can be devastating to your health, especially in conjunction with a health condition as serious as arthritis.
