The concept behind these creams is that they deprive the nerve cells of substance P, which plays a role in sending pain messages to the brain. These creams are typically effective only on joints that are relatively close to the surface, such as the knees, and they need to be applied regularly for several weeks before they are effective. Examples of this form of arthritis pain relief cream include Zostrix, ArthriCare, and Capzasin. Prescription Verses Over The Counter For those who want to give cream a try, the chances of meeting with success are greater if a prescription is obtained from a doctor. These are more likely to provide pain relief for a longer amount of time. Products like Licoderm and Voltaren Gel are common prescription gels that have worked successfully. Coming To A Conclusion... In the end, while creams have the potential to provide a temporary relief for arthritis pain, there is little that they can do in the long run. |
