Dealing With Asthma Attack in Children

Any type of asthma can be difficult to deal with, but asthma attack in children is especially hard. There are a few different reasons, but more than anything this is because children are susceptible to so many more things, and they can have a much bigger problem with an asthma attack in children if they are not able to breathe properly.

Especially when it is a bad asthma attack in children the end result can be devastating, as they may end up suffering permanent damage to their lungs or even potentially death.

Dealing With it

If you have a child who has asthma and they begin to have an asthma attack in children, it is imperative that you know what to do. Of course if the asthma attack in children worsens enough, it is considered as being a medical emergency and you will need to get them in to a doctor or the hospital right away, but you will also need to know what to do in the meantime, while you are on your way there.

First and foremost you need to make sure that they calm down, and that they are not panicking and breathing even faster because this will cause them to run out of air quicker. Think about this - when someone is having an asthma attack, it is basically like they just ran a marathon and are now breathing through a straw.

This helps to give you an idea of how frightened they must feel and how awful it must be, and children especially tend to get freaked out when they have an asthma attack and start to panic. Make sure that you hold their hand, speak to them gently, whatever is going to help them relax. If it is your child, there may be a certain trick that you use when they go to get a needle, or have a test at school for instance, which helps them to relax and you may want to try this.

Other Types of Asthma

There are also other types of asthma that are out there, including exercise asthma which only occurs when a person is working out, or otherwise physically exerting themselves. In these cases it is important that the person keep their physical activity to a minimum and that they make sure to always keep themselves hydrated as well.

All types of asthma are dangerous, some even deadly, especially if left untreated. It is therefore extremely important that you take the time to learn more about your condition, what it involves, and the steps that you should be taking towards achieving optimum health.
