Types Of Cosmetic Eye Laser Surgery

Lasers can be used to perform cosmetic eye laser surgery on both the upper and lower eyelids. The tissues around the eye can have certain age-related changes; the elasticity decreases causing the skin tone to change, the eyebrows start to droops and additional skin accumulates on the upper and lower eyelids. There may be small bags under the eyes where fat collects. These conditions aren't always age related since some young people can have conditions such as disthyroid eye disease and facial nerve palsy that cause the same symptoms.

Blepharoplasty

This is one form of cosmetic eye laser surgery that can be done to enhance the facial features and reverse any age related changes to the eye. The laser beam is used to make incisions to trim the waste skin and muscles from the eyelid. The lasers can also be used to remove fatty deposits from under the eye and erase wrinkles from the lower eyelid. Small sutures are then used to close the incisions, these are then removed after about four to five days. This type of procedure is often does as an outpatient procedures and patients are often allowed to go home right after the procedure is completed.

The Benefits Of Lasers

Using lasers for cosmetic eye laser surgery provides several additional benefits. They help to quickly seal blood vessels which means the surgeon can have a better view of the organ during the cosmetic eye laser surgery procedure. With a better view of the eye the surgeon can perform the procedure with better precision. Cosmetic eye laser surgery also has less postoperative swelling compared to conventional forms of eye surgery. An ice compress will often help swelling to subside within 24 to 48 hours. A laser assisted eye surgery also has less scarring, bruising and discoloration.

After The Procedure

After a cosmetic eye laser surgery as with other eye surgeries there will be a common discomfort from increased light sensitivity and blurred vision that can cause minor pains after the procedure is finished. However, these symptoms are normal and your doctor will often give you an oral medication or eye drops to help relieve the symptoms. After a few days your eyes will return to normal and you can resume normal activities.

Before any procedure your doctor will perform a thorough examination of your eyes to make sure you are a candidate for cosmetic eye laser surgery. Be sure to consider all aspects of a cosmetic eye laser surgery procedures before deciding to go through with the procedure. As with all surgical procedures there are both benefits and risks that should be weighed carefully before proceeding.
