Two Point Guide To Dental And Vision Insurance

Basically insurance can be defined as that process where a customer pays an insurance company a certain amount of money each month or over other specific time frames. This provides the customer an insurance policy that protects the policy holder up to a specific amount of financial loss due to unforeseen circumstances.

There are many types of insurance policies. Those insurance policies include life, homeowners, medical, disability insurance, etc.

Two other types of insurance that protects individuals and provides a preventative option is dental and vision insurance. When it comes to the teeth and eyes it is important to understand the value of this insurance and how to obtain these benefits.

The Importance Of Dental And Vision Insurance

Although dental and vision insurance can cover unforeseen medical procedures related to these two important components of maintaining a person's health, there is a significant difference. That difference is that dental and vision insurance concentrates more on preventative procedures. However, the general rule of thumb is that the higher the premium that is paid by the policy holder the greater the benefits afforded under the insurance policy.

For vision, generally a vision insurance policy covers a yearly exam, testing for glaucoma and either a full or partial coverage of prescription glasses or contacts. Dental insurance generally covers routine dentist visits, x-rays, extractions, cleanings, etc. Also, dental insurance may cover other involved procedures such as bridges, crowns, implants, etc. However, a typical insurance policy will "cap" what they will pay to the dentist over any given period of time. Generally, this period of time is a year.

Accessing Dental And Vision Insurance

The best way to obtain dental and vision insurance is through the workplace. Often employers will make dental and vision insurance part of the fringe benefits that they offer to their full-time employees. Frequently, companies that employ many people will be able to negotiate with insurance companies to obtain affordable premiums.

Also, companies may pay the entire premium for their employees. However, due to rising costs, many companies will provide the insurance for their employees and ask the staff to pay a portion of the premium. In addition, many policies offer family plans. Generally, additional family coverage will be the responsibility of the worker.

Because this is often a fringe benefit for full-time employees this benefit is not paid by the company for part-time employees. However, some companies allow the part-time employee to purchase dental and vision insurance through the company because of the lowered negotiated rate.

If the employer does not provide dental and vision insurance, one excellent way of researching insurance companies that provide dental and vision insurance is by navigating the web. Often a search will produce a variety of insurance companies that will provide an online quote that will provide dental and vision insurance at reasonable premiums.
