The Up and Coming Field of Dental Implants

With so much emphasis on looks and cosmetics these days, it is not difficult to understand why dental implants are soon going to be the norm. Gone are the days of dentures which you need to remove, polish, soak etc. With permanent dental implants, you can have a new smile instantly and that can often take years off your age nearly instantly.

With Botox Cosmetic making waves and plastic surgery no longer just for the rich and famous, it will not be long before dental implants are the only way to go. Your smile makes the biggest impact on your personality and if you are confident about your mouth and teeth, then you can gain oodles of self confidence and make advances in your professional and personal life.

Dental implants at the present time have a very high success rate of permanently being affixed to the patient's jaw. Usual dental implant success rates for are up to 95 per cent so there is little that can go wrong. However, you need to check with your dental insurance or discount plan if implants are covered and if so, how much of the bill will be your responsibility. This is because dental implants are considered part of cosmetic dentistry and not all procedures are fully covered for aesthetic purposes.

How Much Does It Cost?

If you do want to go ahead with dental implants, find out all the costs in writing before hand. Rates vary but a ballpark figure would be around $2500 per tooth implanted. There might be differences based on the dentist's experience, location, the tooth to be implanted, and your age and medical conditions if any. There are however some mini implants also available today that range around $750 per tooth. The deference in the mini dental implant is that they can be used for incisors or narrow teeth and do not require a screw to be placed in even though they are very securely attached.

Smokers

Unfortunately smokers are not good candidates for dental implants because of various factors. Firstly smokers have many tooth and gum problems to begin with which complicate the dental implant procedure. Plus, they have a higher probability of getting oral cancer and so again do not need an additional thing to factor in. If you are a smoker and are really interested in getting implants, talk to an experienced cosmetic dentist and find out how many months after you quit can you be considered for dental implants
