Doctors have always pointed out the importance of diet to lower cholesterol along with exercise and proper fitness. One would need to be aware that one's levels of cholesterol are high to want to go on a diet to lower cholesterol. Doctors have a set level in which they gauge the cholesterol levels of an individual.

To be able to know one's cholesterol level, you will need to have a blood chemistry analysis done. In many cases, you can wait for the results from the lab or come back for it. Some doctors have it delivered to them directly from the laboratory and then ask you over for a consultation to discuss the results of your blood chemistry test.

The Need for the Diet

People who have high cholesterol levels need a diet to lower cholesterol because having high levels of cholesterol can lead to heart disease as well as other diseases that can disable the function of many of our vital organs and affect our overall health and well being. Death can be a risk for those who have high levels of cholesterol which is why doctors recommend a diet to lower cholesterol as well as regular exercise to help maintain one's health and lower one's weight.

Essentials to Lower Cholesterol

There are some essential that need to be omitted from the diet to lower cholesterol and these are fatty foods, salt and unnecessary carbohydrates. Although these are not the only items that you need to omit or moderate in a diet to lower cholesterol, these three are among the main items which you need to be aware of. Items that you will need to increase your daily intake of to have a successful diet to lower cholesterol are those high in fiber and complex carbohydrates. These will help your body process healthy cholesterol in order to control the bad cholesterol.



Foods high in fats and oils contribute to high levels of cholesterol. In many cases, the higher level of cholesterol is that of the triglycerides, which is bad cholesterol. Having high levels of good cholesterol can help to lower bad cholesterol levels and maintain proper balance.

The diet to lower cholesterol may take a few weeks before you see the desired results. Desired results are lighter weight and lower cholesterol levels. Although, being the right weigh does not necessarily mean that you have lower levels of cholesterol, this applies for most cases.
