Finding A Fort Worth Laser Dentist

Despite the name, a "laser dentist" is not a dentist entirely made up of lasers (not yet, anyway). It also does not mean that the dentist's only tool is a laser beam. If you live in the greater Fort Worth or Dallas area, then you will have a choice of Fort Worth laser dentists to go to for teeth whitening services. Keep in mind that not all dentists in central Texas qualify as Fort Worth laser dentists.

Why Teeth Whitening?

One of the fashion fads of the last couple of years is that whiter, brighter teeth are hip. This has led to a national upsurge in tooth whitening systems which include bleaching, really expensive porcelain veneers and laser treatments. Bleaching is considered the least expensive way, but it does not work for many cases of teeth yellowing, especially if as a small child you took certain antibiotics.

Keep in mind that Fort Worth laser dentists' teeth whitening services are considered cosmetic procedures, so they will not be covered by medical insurance, including dental insurance plans. You will most likely have to pay for the entire procedure out of your own pocket.

The laser drill used by Fort Worth laser dentists and some cosmologists is a very expensive, suitcase-sized piece of equipment. Because of the expense and the time it takes to learn, not all dentists offer laser services. If your regular dentist doesn't, then he or she should be able to help give you a recommendation.

Also check the Yellow Pages and online websites (such as Dr. Oogle or the online Yellow Pages) for lists of Fort Worth area laser dentists. Be sure you find out when they expect payment due before you make an appointment. You can also ask any trusted family members, friends or co-workers what dentist they recommend.

Not Just For Pretty Teeth

Laser dentistry has proven to be a less painful way to remove tooth decay and plaque from gums than by the traditional methods. It is also being used for sterilizing root canals, helping to shape very expensive crowns, and to help anesthetize the mouth before surgery. Since this is such a new field of dentistry, the cost is for using lasers is currently more expensive than for traditional methods.

In these capacities, such as a root canal or for oral surgery, your medical insurance may cover the procedures. You need to check with your individual health insurance plan just to be sure.
