Getting The Facts On Infectious Arthritis

Most everyone knows that there are people suffering from arthritis but very few people really know that there are several types of arthritis that is unless you are the one suffering from it. One of the common types seen is that of the infectious arthritis, which is caused by germs such as a fungus, a virus, or a bacterium. While infectious arthritis usually only affect one joint, there have been cases where it does affect more the one and it will last for a long period of time unless it is treated right away.

When someone is suffering from infectious arthritis, they will notice that they are experiencing swelling in the joints along with pain. The doctors normally refer to this swelling as inflammation and it occurs where bones meet, or come together. Most people find that when they have infectious arthritis that they have it in their large joints such as their shoulders, their knees, or their hips. But then there is always the exception to the rule as infectious arthritis has been found in some fingers and ankles, which are smaller joints.

Who Gets It

The fact is infectious arthritis does not show any favoritism as it affects both men and women of all ages. Basically, there is not a person alive that cannot end up suffering from infectious arthritis but there are some people who are more likely to get it then others. Those with certain conditions that can make it hard for them to fight infections are at big risk for infectious arthritis. Someone who is suffering from diabetes, AIDS, kidney disease, alcoholism, certain forms of cancer, and immune deficiency are more likely to end up with this type of arthritis.

Also, a person who already has another form of arthritis is at a greater risk of developing infectious arthritis, as there are already damaged joints that the germs would be attracted to. And even though it sounds a little off, people who work closely with animals, marine life, plants, and even soil have a greater chance of getting infectious arthritis. Most people who work in these sorts of jobs probably have no idea about these facts, as most people would not associate animals with arthritis. But there is no need to avoid your garden or your pets as not everyone who handles these things will contract this arthritis so do not worry. But if you do ever experience the symptoms, please check with you doctor.
