Restorative Dentistry: Repairing Your Teeth After A TraumaThe goal of restorative dentistry to repair the teeth that can still be repaired and replace who teeth that can no longer be saved. The restorative dental process can be as simple as cleaning dental carries and filling the holes up to more complicated processes such as replacing the entire crown of the tooth. If your teeth had been knocked off or chipped off during an accident, your dentist can restore your teeth by reattaching the original tooth to its socket if possible or fit you with a new crown if the old tooth is no longer viable. Restoring Your Teeth The dental restoration process can be generally classified into two main categories namely direct and indirect restoration processes. Direct restoration process, as the name implies, require the dentist to apply materials like composite resins, dental amalgam and the likes directly into your teeth to repair the damage. This process can be quite effective for chipped off teeth. On the other hand, the indirect restorative dentistry process does not require the dentist to work directly on your tooth. In indirect restorative dentistry, the dentist works in a lab to craft a replacement tooth using your dental records. Once the tooth is finished, the dentist will now fit the tooth into your mouth. This process is really convenient especially if you are living far from your dentist and you want the tooth to be ready by the time you come to the dentist's clinic for a restorative process. Since the tooth is already pre-cast at the laboratory, you will not need to stay long in the dentist clinic. Modern dental procedures that involve indirect restoration can now be completed within an hour or two as the case maybe. However, the catch here is that indirect restorative dentistry procedure may come off a little bit more expensive compared to the direct restorative process. |
