Many Signs Of High Blood Pressure Are Often Ignored

Driving through busy city streets that have no names on them can be a frustrating experience and most times you will not realize you are lost until it is too late. With many of the signs of high blood pressure being subtle or vague, most people do not realize they have high blood pressure until they have it measured, or the suffer some form of related problem. Headaches, dizziness and nausea are a few of the signs of high blood pressure that are often mistaken for other ailments, giving high blood pressure the reputation of being a silent killer.

Typically, when a person goes to the doctor one of the first things checked is their blood pressure. Unfortunately, a person who is otherwise healthy may not recognize the signs of high blood pressure and not visit their doctor as often as they should. A person with undiagnosed high blood pressure who fails to receive appropriate treatment may not learn about their high blood pressure until they have a heart attack or a stroke.

With most of the signs of high blood pressure unrecognized or ignored by people, there is usually no treatment effected until organs damaged by chronic high blood pressure requires treatment. Heart attack, stroke, kidney failure and loss of vision are some of the most common damages associated with chronic high blood pressure.

High Diastolic Pressure Is Cause For Alarm

For most people, who have not recognized the signs of high blood pressure, may feel lightheaded or dizzy on occasion, and if the diastolic pressure, the bottom number usually read by medical personnel is over 140, immediate medical attention is required. This high of a reading can quickly cause blood vessels to burst, especially smaller ones in the brain, leading to stroke and even death.

Since many of the signs of high blood pressure are similar to other less threatening ailments, people often ignore them or take medication for the wrong problem, which can exacerbate the blood pressure problem. For example, a person with a headache, which can be one of the signs of high blood pressure may take medication for the headache that actually increases the blood pressure.

Persons who do not visit the doctor regularly are often prone to ignoring the subtle signs of high blood pressure, but at the very least they should check their blood pressure annually just to make sure there are no unexpected consequences.
