Stress management among students is very important today given the fact that the lives that modern day students are leading are more stressed. They may also be entering adolescence and the amount of stress that they are feeling will increase and lead to a certain amount of unbearable distress. Stress among students can be high regardless of whether the students are in high school, secondary school or in universities.

No Guarantees

When it concerns stress management among students that are going to university, there is no guarantee of success and such management techniques are more of a hit or miss affair. No doubt, there are universities that are offering stress management classes, but even these are not well attended by students, perhaps because of lack of time or due to lack of awareness.

There are certain techniques that when used can help stress management among students. If these are not used, stress will continue to build up among students and lead to undesirable consequences. Among the foremost of these techniques is clearly defining words like stress, stressor and distress for if stress management in students is to work the student must be able to understand what these terms mean, only then will they be able to deal with their stress.

Secondly, stress management students can be better helped if an action plan has been chalked out based on the defined words. With the required knowledge the student will be able to control how they respond to stress by determining the proper and proactive steps required to deal with various stressors, and in a way ambush these stressors before they can attack the student. So identifying the stressors is an important part of stress management among students because if the student is focused and on the lookout for signs of stressors, they can ambush stressors well in time if it is a simple act such as sharing a room with another student.



Stress management in students can prove to be effective if the student learns how to convert distress into what is known as eustress, and this of course is a major technique that helps ease stress in students. So, students will need to learn how to turn certain negative responses into positive responses and create eustress or beneficial stress that will lead to excitement, happiness and positive attitudes.

A stress management workshop is another useful means by which students get to learn how a mild degree of stress can be beneficial and not so harmful and can help to protect them rather than do any harm. The bottom line is that it is possible to strip unwanted stress by choosing the right program or drug or therapy - all of which will help in providing effective stress management for students.
