Laser Surgery As A Stretch Mark Removal Remedy

If your profession relies on your looks (modeling, politics, acting, whatever), then getting stretch marks can be a career blow. You've probably used the creams, lotions and anything labeled "stretch mark removal remedy" at your pharmacy. At this point, you've come to realize that those remedies do not work. You are now looking at the prospect of getting cosmetic surgery as a stretch mark removal remedy. There is a less invasive procedure in the use of laser surgery.

Check With Your Doctor

Using lasers as a stretch mark removal remedy is still considered controversial in many medical circles. Lasers are hoped to help reduce the appearance of stretch marks significantly, but they cannot completely repair the damage done to the skin because of rapid weight loss, weight gain or sudden growth spurt. Some doctors think lasers are effective only as a pregnancy stretch mark remedy, but do not think it could work for the arms or legs.

Please don't use this or any other article as a substitute for your doctor's advice. Not everybody is a good candidate for laser surgery. You also will most likely have to pay for the procedure up front, although some financing programs exist, depending on the clinic that you go to. Your doctor needs to confer with your potential plastic surgeon to see what's best for you.

What Lasers Aim To Do

Lasers are usually used to remove something. They don't actually remove your stretch marks when used as a stretch mark removal remedy. They aim to fill your stretch mark in with collagen, which your body produces. The use of the laser helps tell the body to grow more collagen and where to grow it. In this way, the stretch marks are removed in the eyes of others, if not in actual fact.

One of the advantages of laser surgery as a stretch mark removal remedy is that you have a much lower risk of blood loss than with usual cosmetic surgery. Many argue that you also stand less of a chance of getting an infection as a direct result of the procedure. This is also usually an outpatient procedure.

Some problems with laser surgery is with they type and age of the stretch marks that you have. Lasers do not do a good job on older stretch marks that have already turned a flesh color or turned white. But they do a better job with brown or reddish stretch marks.
