What Falls Under Unexplained Infertility?

Infertility is a condition where the male of female of the species is not able to contribute to conception. It is a state in where the man, the woman or both have difficulty carrying a pregnancy to term resulting in a miscarriage or cannot conceive at all. Infertility can be a heavy burden to bear and has many causes. Among the many causes of infertility, there is also what experts call unexplained infertility. Unexplained infertility has no apparent causes.

How Does Fertility Work

Fertility is the condition where both man and woman manage to conceive a child. In all cases, the woman has a timeframe where she produces an egg which the man has to fertilize with his sperm within that timeframe. Conditions must be good for the egg to be fertilized and eventually result to a baby.

Causes Of Infertility

There are many causes of infertility. Among these are low sperm count, malformed sperm and low motility of sperm in men. In women, causes of infertility include irregular ovulation or ovarian factors, blockage in the tubes, uterine factors, genetic factors and vaginal problems. Usually, unexplained infertility occurs mostly with in women. Unexplained infertility has no clear causes and may baffle gynecologists.

Infertility doctors, otherwise called reproductive endocrinologists, are well aware of unexplained infertility and they usually cite this when there are no apparent causes of infertility in an individual. There are only theories of what causes unexplained infertility and these theories include untimely release of the female egg, the egg not being transported properly from the ovaries to the uterus, the inability of spermatozoa to break into the egg, the zygote might not be able to properly implant itself in the uterine walls and in some cases of older women, the quality of their eggs may not be optimum.

Unexplained infertility can be treated but may take some time and may need some patience. If you are diagnosed by a doctor with unexplained infertility, you can try another well respected reproductive endocrinologist for a second opinion. If the second diagnosis is the same as the first, you can pretty well surmise that unexplained infertility is what you have. Since unexplained infertility shows that nothing is wrong with you, the next step to treating it is confusing.

If you have waited for several years and you still have not conceived, you could try Invitro. This is a surefire way of getting the sperm directly into the egg. The only other problem would be how to make the zygote implant properly into the uterine walls. There are many infertility drugs to help with this kind of problem. You can try a combination of treatments to help unexplained infertility. You will need to consult your reproductive endocrinologist every step of the way of the treatment and be prepared to spend a lot of money on this.
