It is this essence that is said to promote healing and relieve the symptoms. It is primarily because of this philosophy and the scientific evidence that shows that homeopathic infusions are primarily inert containing none of the original herbal compound or so little compound as to be unnoticeable.
That has placed homeopathic medicine and into the realm of pseudoscience and alternative medical practices, removing it from its once strong position as an alternative to more barbaric medical practices such as purging and bloodletting. This medical practice was primarily more popular and bloodletting or purging because it tended to have better results. The reason for this is speculated not that the herbal compounds were effective, but it is that the body was not made weak through the harsh bloodletting and purging practices allowing the body to heal its self, faster and more efficiently because it was stronger.
