Do Wrinkle Creams Really Work?

It is an age old question, yet it is asked again and again. Do wrinkle creams really work? Wrinkle creams have been on the market for years, and the results they deliver can vary from brand to brand, based on the type of wrinkles you want to treat and the ingredients in the wrinkle creams you use.

What Ingredients To Look For In Your Wrinkle Creams

Good wrinkle creams contain good ingredients. When you use an over the counter wrinkle cream, it will contain lower concentrations of certain ingredients in comparison to prescription brands, so you shouldn't expect a complete face lift from slathering on one application of wrinkle cream. However, if you pick a cream with the right ingredients, you can expect your face to look younger and more refreshed for the day.

One ingredient found in many popular wrinkle creams is Retinol. Retinol is a milder form of the vitamin A that is found in prescription wrinkle treatments. Vitamin A is a powerful antioxidant and can really help to improve the look and feel of your skin. If you are pregnant or thinking about becoming pregnant, you shouldn't use a topical product that contains vitamin A or any of its derivatives.

Another ingredient to look for is hydroxy acids. Perhaps you have heard of alpha hydroxyl acids, as they are the most common, but there are also two other hydroxyl acids: ploy hydroxy acids and beta hydroxy acids. These acids work to exfoliate the top layer of your skin, leaving fresh smooth skin behind. While their effect can be dramatic, it is temporary and to keep your skin looking fresh, wrinkle creams that include hydroxy acids must be used every day.

Kinetin is the new buzz word in wrinkle creams. Scientists aren't sure how it helps to reduce wrinkles on your face, but early studies show that it can help your skin produce moisture and can even stimulate the formation of collagen.

What Type Of Wrinkles Can Be Fought Through Wrinkle Creams?

Not every type of wrinkle can be combated through the use of wrinkle creams. These products are great for plumping up your skin and giving you a fresh look, but they don't treat wrinkles in the same way that a plastic surgeon can. Being a topical solution, they don't stretch out aging skin or permanently reduce wrinkles. The very best type of wrinkles to use these products on are the small smile lines around your eyes, the laugh lines around your mouth and even the deeper lines on your forehead.
